Affiliate Marketing

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing vs. Sponsored Content: Affiliate marketing is passive income and commission based. This means you earn a commission every time someone buys a product or brand as a result of reading your content, and should not be confused with sponsored content which is when a business pays a one time fee for content. More about sponsored content here.

What Is An Affiliate Program?

An affiliate program is when you promote a merchant's product by writing about the product and placing links in your content to the merchant website. Affiliate programs on YAYWORLD are CPA based. CPA stands for 'cost per acquisition', sometimes referred to as 'cost per action'. This means you are paid a commission by the merchant or affiliate network (see below) every time people buy the product as a result of clicking a link in your content.

Do not confuse CPA with CPC which stands for 'cost per click'. CPC is the amount that a content creator receives when a banner or ad is clicked. CPC is highly competitive, auction based and the conversion rate is very low compared to CPA. That's why banners and ads are not permitted on YAYWORLD websites.

What Is An Affiliate Network?

Affiliate Networks are middle-men between affiliates (you) and merchants. They connect you with thousands of merchants worldwide and provide all the tools you need for a successful content marketing campaign. They also provide tracking, payments and support. As a result, they get a small cut of your commission. On the up side, they provide direct access to merchants you may not know about, and pay out to content creators globally - meaning you're not restricted by your location. Your commissions are paid by the affiliate network. Beware of one

How To Become An Affiliate Marketer

  1. Create a Profile
Sign up and create a profile. Explain in your bio that you're a content creator interested in affiliate marketing, then publish a few posts so merchants can see your style and decide if it fits with their brand.

  2. Join Affiliate Programs
You can either contact a brand directly and ask if they have an affiliate program, or register with an affiliate network. Good affiliate networks include Rakuten, ShareASale and PepperJam - all three have a direct relationship with merchants, unlike sub affiliate networks like Sovrn and Skimlinks. Sub-networks curate merchants from other affiliate networks like Rakuten, ShareASale and PepperJam, and then take an additional cut of your commission, so your commission is split three ways instead of two, so it's best to avoid them.

  3. Our SEO Structure ensures you Rank Higher in Search Results
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is about organizing your information so it's easy for Google to find and rank it. That's why it's important to post your content on a YAYWORLD micro-site that fits your content and target audience.
